When and how to use this calculator
A five-day employee generally has 28 days (5.6 weeks) statutory annual leave. Three days each week works out to 16.8 leave days in a full year, not 28 days.
- Use this tool for a REGULAR fixed weekly schedule over a FULL leave year. Enter days worked each week, including part-time regular work.
- Enter a typical day's paid working hours if you need the rough entitlement expressed in hours; varying daily hours require more careful scheduling.
- Check your employment contract, leave year dates and whether bank/public holidays are included within the statutory total.
Understand your result
Only full leave-year, regular fixed days and hours. Does not decide unusual contracts, irregular hours, statutory carry-over, holiday pay averages or part-year employment.
Questions people ask
Are UK bank holidays added to these days?
Not automatically. An employer can count bank holidays as part of statutory leave; the actual contract may be more generous.
What if I started halfway through the leave year?
Your entitlement is normally pro-rated. This page deliberately models only a full leave year, not all joiner/leaver rules.
Does this apply to zero-hours contracts?
Irregular-hours and part-year workers may be subject to special accrual rules. Use the official GOV.UK entitlement calculator for those arrangements.
