Calculation results
Assumes the same existing-card APR as the new card's post-promotion rate, fixed monthly payments, no purchases or new charges; the offer may expire or change.
Estimate only. A bank, employer, tax office or lender may apply additional conditions. See the scope and source below.
When and how to use this calculator
Transferring $6,000 with a 3% balance transfer charge adds $180, making the starting new-card balance $6,180. Under a 0% intro offer, $450 monthly payments reduce that balance over 15 months; interest afterward uses the rate you entered.
- Enter a real promotional quote: length, transfer fee and promotional rate; confirm whether the fee is added to principal.
- Enter the TOTAL fixed monthly payment you will actually make, and for a comparable scenario enter the APR that would apply without transferring. This simplified model uses that SAME APR after the promo ends.
- Compare the remaining promotional balance, savings including fees, and whether you can finish repayment before the offer expires. Avoid new purchases; their balances may have a different APR.
Understand your result
Assumes no new spending, one balance, fixed monthly payments and identical non-promo/current APR for the comparison. Transfer fee is added to the balance; no separate APRs for purchases, changing minimums, late fees, deferred interest or variable indexes.
Questions people ask
Are all balance transfers at 0% APR?
No. Introductory APRs vary and may expire; enter the exact documented offer.
Does interest get charged retroactively at the promotion's end?
A true 0% intro APR differs from deferred-interest promotions; read your agreement carefully.
Do late payments matter?
Yes. Missing contractual minimum payments may cancel promotional terms or trigger fees and penalty APRs.
