UNITED KINGDOM · CREDIT CARD DEBT

When could you clear your credit card debt?

Compare monthly repayments and see how higher payments might reduce interest. This is a fixed-payment illustration, not a lender's minimum-repayment rule or exact statement calculation.

Starting debt

Not the provider's monthly minimum

If you owe £2,000 and pay a fixed £100 per month, compare your chosen interest rate against paying an additional £25. These are hypothetical payments, not the amount your issuer requires.

UK credit cards may use an effective APR, daily interest, varying interest rates and provider-specific minimum repayment rules. This simple model uses the nominal annual borrowing rate / 12, does not calculate actual minimum payments, persistent-debt communications, late fees, rate promotions or multiple balances. It must not be used as a regulated repayment statement.

CARD DEBT · GUIDE

When could you clear your credit card debt?

  1. 01

Enter your current card debt and a relevant annual interest rate. If your statement shows a representative APR that includes fees, it may not be the same as the borrowing rate needed here.

  2. 02

Choose a fixed monthly repayment amount. The minimum repayment shown on your statement is calculated by your provider and often decreases as the outstanding balance shrinks.

  3. 03

Add an affordable monthly top-up to see a faster repayment schedule. Check both the repayment duration and total accumulated interest.

  4. 04

Compare the illustration with your issuer's terms and your statement. Use MoneyHelper or free debt advice if you cannot meet the contractual minimum or are already in persistent debt.

Important limitations

UK credit cards may use an effective APR, daily interest, varying interest rates and provider-specific minimum repayment rules. This simple model uses the nominal annual borrowing rate / 12, does not calculate actual minimum payments, persistent-debt communications, late fees, rate promotions or multiple balances. It must not be used as a regulated repayment statement.

Credit-card questions

Will paying the minimum clear the debt quickly?

Often not. Your provider may calculate a changing minimum payment, and paying only that amount may prolong the debt. This tool only models a fixed amount you enter.

Does the rate match my representative APR?

Not necessarily. UK representative APR figures can incorporate assumptions about charges. Check the actual borrowing interest rate and interest calculation in your agreement.

What happens if I miss a payment?

This tool does not include late fees or credit-file effects. If you may miss a required payment, contact your provider or a free debt adviser promptly.
