Use this when…
- Understand the GST included in an ₹1,180 bill.
- Add the correct GST to a ₹1,000 base price.
- See a numerical CGST/SGST versus IGST breakdown.
Calculate GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive unit and invoice prices in rupees, with optional CGST/SGST split for intrastate supplies or IGST numerical display.
Quoting a customer, checking a supplier invoice or comparing prices before tax? Enter the rupee value and a rate verified against the relevant HSN/SAC classification. This calculator only handles arithmetic; it does not determine tax treatment.
Taxable value is the price before GST, GST is the tax amount and invoice total is their sum. Split amounts depend on a legal supply classification made outside this calculator.
At an illustrative 18% rate, ₹1,180 inclusive corresponds to ₹1,000 taxable value and ₹180 tax. An applicable intra-state example splits ₹180 equally into CGST and SGST.
Watch out for this mistake You cannot remove 18% GST from ₹1,180 by simply subtracting 18% of the total. Nor does a preset prove that any specific HSN code attracts that rate.

Enter the price of one item and how many identical items are sold. Use a separate calculation if your invoice includes different GST rates.
Select whether the price is inclusive of GST or before GST. As an example, ₹1,180 including 18% GST contains ₹1,000 base value and ₹180 tax.
Verify the applicable rate and HSN/SAC classification using GST Council and CBIC information, including any updates. Use the rate entry to override any illustrative preset.
For a straightforward intra-state transaction, use the CGST + SGST split display. For an inter-state scenario, display the same mathematical tax as IGST. Confirm legal classification separately.
Indian GST rates and classifications can change; the 57th GST Council met in October 2026. The 5%, 18% and 40% entries are NUMERICAL examples, not advice that they apply to a product. Do not assume exempt, nil-rated and zero-rated exports are identical. CGST/SGST versus IGST depends on actual place-of-supply rules, not this checkbox. No compensation cess, invoicing-rounding law or input-tax-credit eligibility is calculated.
Tax-exclusive price × GST rate determines the tax. For GST-inclusive price, divide by (1 + rate/100) to extract the taxable value. The optional intra-state mode splits the GST numerically into equal CGST and SGST halves; it does not establish legal place of supply.
Divide ₹1,180 by 1.18: taxable value ₹1,000 and GST ₹180.
In a normal intra-state taxable supply, GST is shared between central and state components; inter-state supplies generally apply IGST. Legal place-of-supply exceptions need separate assessment.
No. You must confirm the GST rate, exemptions and effective date from official tax materials.

Shop owners, freelancers and suppliers may know either the basic price or the customer-facing total. Separating taxable value and GST can help verify arithmetic before drafting an invoice.
The GST Council has changed rates and classifications in recent years. Check the current notification and the specific HSN/SAC treatment rather than assuming every item attracts the same rate.
At a hypothetical 18% GST rate, an ₹1,180 total represents 118% of its taxable value. Dividing by 1.18 produces ₹1,000 basic value and ₹180 GST.
When the starting value is ₹1,000 excluding tax, 18% amounts to ₹180 and the total becomes ₹1,180. A different quantity scales the calculation; invoice-level rounding may differ.
An ordinary eligible intra-state transaction may show half CGST and half SGST, such as ₹90 each on a ₹180 total tax. A corresponding inter-state illustration displays IGST.
Whether a sale legally counts as inter-state or intra-state depends on supply and registration rules, not a simple toggle on this page.
